HISTORY Hadji Dragan lived a hundred years ago – a merchant of wool and silk. For many years he traveled around the country, visited many neighborhoods. Trading, he stopped in different cities. The people welcomed him with great hospitality. He often got dark in the evening and stayed in an inn. When it was winter he liked to stand by the fireplace. Sparks came out of the chimney, and the feasts simmered in the pots. In the summer, he ate and drank under the vines and enjoyed the beautiful nature. From his travels, he was very impressed by the beauty of Bulgarian houses, each with its own appearance and style. One winter evening, sitting by the fireplace and watching the picturesque dance of the fire, he thought about what to do to collect these beauties in Sofia. Then he decided, as soon as he warmed up, to call the best craftsmen from Koprivshtitsa, Zheravna, Melnik and Bansko. Spring has come, the trees have turned green, colors have brightened nature. Hadji Dragan called the craftsmen and arranged a competition to see who would build the most beautiful house. The craftsmen stopped and the construction started. Crowds of people gathered, attracted by curiosity to see the constructions. Hadji Dragan looked with great delight and a jubilant smile at the craftsmanship of the builders and thought to himself: “The best of Bulgaria will be gathered here, and whoever comes will welcome him with a full glass and a delicious Bulgarian feast. May he know where he has been!” Last summer, the builders finished the construction of the houses, putting their spirit and heart into them. Each of the houses had its own appearance and unique architecture, richly decorated with decorative elements, painted with household paintings. Haji Dragan was very pleased and rewarded them richly, like he told them that from now on they would be the most honored guests in the pubs. The gates opened and guests arrived, and the most distinguished people in Sofia arrived in carriages. This is how Hadji Dragan’s dream came true: “A wide gate opened to welcome guests , to feast them richly, to see them off with joy.” HOSPITALITY IN BULGARIAN After four years of work on the restoration and interior of the houses, the complex successfully opened its doors on March 1, 2004.
