Lit Athens has begun to breathe new life into the historic center of the city. The main desire of the creators of Lit was to create a space that would express them as native Athenians. The shop is cozy, reminiscent of Athens and anyone who visits it will have the desire to come from morning to night. To be able to put his laptop somewhere, hang out, work, drink coffee with friends in the sun and eat breakfast. Then, let the beers and cocktails begin to the sounds of downtempo and old school music. The delicious food menu has been curated by chef Manos Sarris. Whoever finds himself at Lit, will be able to eat from morning to night. The philosophy of breakfast and late breakfast is based on nostalgia. The people of the shop wanted the food to remind us of our grandmother or our mother, who are always there when we want breakfast. Even the comfort setting of the dishes goes along with this idea. On the breakfast menu there are mainly dishes with organic eggs, such as the delicious kayanas, a variety of cheeses and some jams. As in every part of the menu, also at breakfast, Manos has made sure that there are also vegetarian options – even vegan ones, such as Porridge. The warm and fluffy bread that we will taste at Lit (either sourdough or with oats) is prepared by Kora, while the Thessaloniki bun is of their own production. Highlights of the main menu, as the children revealed to me, are the marinated fish of the day with tarama cream, carob, olives and Xerez vinegar, as well as the shoes with smoked béchamel. The macaroni with mizithra and burnt butter are handmade and ready to be tasted, while in the stuffed ones, instead of the traditional rice, we will try a more sticky one reminiscent of sushi. The warm hospitality, the flavors and the special emphasis on raw material and quality, in every aspect of Lit’s menu, have already stolen impressions. Summer in the city seems to have found its destination. The rich list of wines is edited by Skorpiou’s sommelier, Giorgos Zervogiannis. The wines come exclusively from Greek vineyards from northern and southern Greece, while all of them can be perfectly combined with the food. As for beer, at Lit we will not find the well-known brands, but Greek breweries and microbreweries, such as Nisos and Vergina.
